At Duchesne, you were actually allowed to cut class twice a semester -- it was part of the "flexible academic program." The school understood that sometimes, the stress was just too much and students occasionally had to cut class. It was amazing how even rebellion was written into the school's rules, everything so neatly tied into the whole rigor and logic of the place.
— Duchesne's liberal attendance policy.

Duchesne Institute is one of New York's most prestigious schools.

History[]

Duchesne-corridors

Sky and Jack in the corridors of Duchesne.

Formerly the home of Rose Elizabeth Flood, widow of Captain Armstrong Flood, and her three daugthers, the building was donated to Marguerite Duchesne, a Belgian governess, when Rose's three daughters perished during the sinking of the SS Endeavor. Heartbroken, Mrs. Flood returned to the Midwest, leaving the house to Duchesne so that she would found her "dream institution." And so the great mission of Duchesne school began in 1869, with every year more and more young girls being sent to the institution -- with boys joining the ranks of this prestigious school for the first time in the mid-1960s.

For decades now, the school has welcomed many young members of the Blue Blood New York community.

Appearance[]

The building, due to many preservation efforts, has retained its original appearance across the ages, giving the students the impression that they were walking backward in time. For example, the school still contains a real-life size of the three Flood daughters hangs above the marble staircase of the main entryway.
