- This article is about Helda, the character from Melissa de la Cruz's novels.
You were maybe looking for the character from the TV series; see The Gatherer.
Helda is the ancient Norse Goddess of Death and the sister to the Mother Goddess of Earth Skadi. With their ambivalent nature, both sisters agreed the Covenant of the Dead, in order not to interfere with the other's "doing". However, both seem to have difficulties accepting the terms of the contract, and the two Goddesses often challenge each other.
Physical appearance[]
Helda is described as an elderly silver-haired woman. Dressed strictly with black clothes and wearing a hair bun, she is said to have her face wrinckled, thin lips and steely grey eyes, which makes her look cruel and immemorial. She sometimes appears as a busy accountant, collecting souls rather than taxes, as commented by Mimi Force.

- With Ingrid and Freya: Even if they do not see themselves quite often, Helda seems to have some affection for her nieces. When Mimi revealed it was Ingrid who told her about the Orpheus Amendment, Helda displayed some surprise, thinking Erda was much more intelligent than her sister and noting that Freya liked to bother her aunt.

Notes[]
- From what Mimi has said, Helda likes Wagner.
- In the TV series, Helda's "closest" equivalent used to be Wendy Beauchamp; though apart from being Joanna's sister, the two have very little in common.
- However, "The Gatherer", a fifth woman from the Beauchamp family which Ingrid discovered in a book, was later introduced and that woman is indeed Helda's television equivalent. Her title could be a reference to a gatherer of souls.
- In regular Norse myths, Helda (or Hel) is Loki's daughter.
